Mitch Carmichael

Senator Jeff Mullins Named Chairman of Banking and Insurance Committee

CHARLESTON – Senate President Mitch Carmichael, R-Jackson, has named Senator Jeff Mullins, R-Raleigh, Chairman of the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee. He replaces Senator Ed Gaunch, R-Kanawha, who recently was named Chairman of the Senate Government Organization Committee.

Senator Mullins, who was elected in 2014, currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Finance Committee. He will continue to serve as Vice Chairman of Finance while assuming the duties of his new role. He also serves as a member of the Energy, Industry and Mining, Pensions, and Workforce committees.

“I am truly grateful to have someone with the extensive financial and insurance expertise of Senator Mullins stepping in to lead this incredibly critical Senate committee,” Senate President Carmichael said. “Our state’s financial health is dependent upon strong financial institutions and a fair, solid insurance climate, and there is truly nobody I can think of who is more qualified to take the lead on these kinds of legislative issues.”

Senator Mullins will begin his duties immediately.

“It is my honor to serve the people of this great state as the Chairman of the Banking and Insurance Committee,” Senator Mullins said. “I have always looked to use the skills and knowledge I have built during my career in my public service in the Senate, and I think this role will be the perfect way to combine those. I look forward to getting started.”
