[Introduced January 10, 2018; Referred

A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §18-5A-7, relating to teachers posting online a required calendar of scheduled activities in their classes that can be viewed by the parents of their students.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:

ARTICLE 5A. LOCAL SCHOOL INVOLVEMENT.

§18-5A-7. Class information posted on line.

(a) Every school shall maintain a website that allows teachers to post a required calendar of activities scheduled for their classes including, but not limited to, test dates, when homework assignments are due and what chapters of the textbooks they are using are currently being studied.  Teachers shall update these calendars as is necessary and may state that the schedule is not finalized.

(b) The purpose of these calendars is to allow parents to know what activities are occurring in their children’s classrooms so that they may better ensure that their children are performing the required activities in a timely manner.

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to allow teachers to post on-line a required calendar of scheduled activities in their classes that can be viewed by the parents of their students.
