A BILL to amend and reenact §15-2-16 of the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, relating to criminalizing the giving of false or misleading information to county and municipal officers.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That §15-2-16 of the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended and reenacted to read as follows:
ARTICLE 2. WEST VIRGINIA STATE POLICE.
§15-2-16. Interference with officers or members; false information; penalty.

Any person who at any time intercepts, molests or interferes with any officer or member of the department of public safety West Virginia State Police while on duty, or any state, county or municipal officer or person then under the charge and direction of some officer or member of the department of public safety West Virginia State Police while on duty, or who knowingly gives false or misleading information to a member of the department or any state, county or municipal officer
, is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not less than twenty-five dollars nor more than two hundred dollars, or imprisoned in the county jail for not more than sixty days, or both fined and imprisoned.



NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to make it a crime for persons to give false or misleading information to county and municipal officers.
