A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §18‑8‑1b, relating to requiring students to attend school until the age of eighteen.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §18‑8‑1b, to read as follows:
ARTICLE 8. COMPULSORY SCHOOL ATTENDANCE.
§18‑8‑1b. Compulsory attendance in school until eighteen years of age.
Notwithstanding any provision of this code to the contrary, all students in this state who are attending a school must attend that school until the age of eighteen. However, this section does not apply to students who are exempt from school attendance for a reason other than age.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require students to attend school until the age of eighteen.
This section is new; therefore, it has been completely underscored.
