SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 1

Requesting the Division of Highways name the section of Interstate 70 in West Virginia between the Pennsylvania and Ohio borders the "World War II Veterans Memorial Highway".

Whereas, Thousands of American soldiers served their nation with pride and distinction during World War II; and
Whereas, Thousands of American soldiers died with dignity and honor while in service to their nation during this violent time in world history; and
Whereas, Thousands of those soldiers were West Virginia sons and daughters who answered the call of a grateful nation; and
Whereas, The dedication and commitment of American soldiers to keep tyranny and oppression from American shores and to help other nations whose freedom was threatened led the United States into the position of worldwide respect that it has today; and
Whereas, As a tribute to the thousands of brave men and women who served their nation at a time when the world was at war, and especially to the sons and daughters from the State of West Virginia, it is fitting to have a lasting memorial to honor their patriotism and commitment to freedom; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Legislature hereby requests the Division of Highways to name the portion of Interstate 70 in West Virginia between the Pennsylvania and Ohio borders the "World War II Veterans Memorial Highway" as a fitting tribute to the thousands of American soldiers who served their nation with pride and distinction while the world was at war; and, be it
Further Resolved, That memory and honor of the American soldiers who paid the ultimate price for freedom be memorialized with the dedication of this section of highway as a tribute to those who fought and died during World War II; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the West Virginia Division of Highways is requested to erect signs so designating this section as the "World War II Veterans Memorial Highway"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Secretary of the Department of Transportation and the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
