SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 7

(By Senators Stuart, Jeffries, Helton, Phillips, and Rose)

Requesting the Division of Highways name a 2.9 mile portion of Riverside Drive between 5th Avenue and 4th Avenue in front of Madison Middle School on West Virginia Route 20 beginning on WV 20 at 38 4' 24" N -81 49'34".50 W and ending at 38 4' 22". 71 N, -81 49'34". 59 W, in Boone County, the "Cohen Wade Craddock Memorial Road".

Whereas, Cohen Wade Craddock was born in Charleston, West Virginia, September 9, 2010, the son of Ryan and Jennifer Craddock; and

Whereas, Cohen Wade Craddock died from injuries suffered during football practice at Madison Middle School when he started to make a tackle, took a hit to his helmeted head and was knocked down.   He got up, took a couple of steps and was rendered unconscious.  He died on August 24, 2024, at CAMC General Charleston; and

Whereas, Cohen Wade Craddock was beloved by his classmates, teachers, and Maddison Middle School staff.  He was "Mr. Personality and liked to joke and make you smile, even if he was feeling bad; a teenager with a big heart; a big teddy bear"; and

Whereas, Cohen Wade Craddock, who loved his church, playing video games, hunting and fishing and those activities that attracted teenagers, is survived by his parents and a host of family members, friends, and classmates; and

Whereas, Cohen Wade Craddock’s death has left a void in the lives all who knew and loved him; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate the shortened life of Cohen Wade Craddock; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways name a 2.9 mile portion of Riverside Drive between 5th Avenue and 4th Avenue in front of Madison Middle School on West Virginia Route 20 beginning on WV 20 at 38 4' 24" N -81 49'34".50 W and ending at 38 4' 22". 71 N, -81 49'34". 59 W, in Boone County, the "Cohen Wade Craddock Memorial Road"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs at both ends identifying the portion of road as the "Cohen Wade Craddock Memorial Road"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
