Senator Ed Gaunch Named Chairman of Government Organization Committee

CHARLESTON – Senate President Mitch Carmichael, R-Jackson, has named Senator Ed Gaunch, R-Kanawha, Chairman of the Senate Government Organization Committee. He replaces Senator Craig Blair, R-Berkeley, who recently was named Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

Senator Gaunch, who was elected in 2014, currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Government Organization Committee. He is the Chairman of the Banking and Insurance and Pensions committees, and is a member of the Confirmations, Energy, Industry and Mining, Finance, Tax Reform, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Enrolled Bills committees.

“I am pleased that Senator Gaunch has agreed to accept this important role as Chairman of one of the most influential and powerful committees in the West Virginia Legislature. In this role, Senator Gaunch will serve as a vital part of our leadership team that is devoted to bringing efficiency to state government,” Senate President Carmichael said. “Senator Gaunch has established himself as one of the most respected, reasonable voices in the Legislature. Under his leadership, this critical committee – whose work affects the day-to-day lives of so many West Virginians – will continue to thrive, and to work to streamline and improve the way this state does business.”

Senator Gaunch will begin his duties immediately.

“It is my privilege and honor to serve the people of West Virginia in the role of Chairman of the Committee on Government Organization. I look forward to working with all parties to bring an enhanced level of efficiency and accountability to state government,” Senator Gaunch said.
