Delegate Foster Appointed Assistant Majority Leader for House of Delegates

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – House Speaker Tim Armstead, R-Kanawha, today announced he was appointing Delegate Geoff Foster, R-Putnam, to serve as Assistant Majority Leader for the House of Delegates.

Foster succeeds former Delegate John O’Neal, R-Raleigh, who recently resigned to take a position with Gov. Jim Justice’s administration.

“Geoff has been a fierce advocate for conservative principles, and a strong supporter of reforms to improve our state’s business climate,” Speaker Armstead said. “He’s earned the respect of his fellow lawmakers and I’m proud to add him to our leadership team.”

As Assistant Majority Leader, Foster will work with the leadership team and individual members to develop and implement their legislative agenda. He will also lead floor activities in the absence of Majority Leader Daryl Cowles, R-Morgan.

“I’m honored the Speaker has chosen me for this position,” Delegate Foster said. “West Virginia is at a crucial turning point. The reforms we’ve made over the past three years have drawn the nation’s attention, and our recent economic improvement is a sign that job creators are ready to invest in our state. I look forward to building upon these successes and crafting a brighter future for West Virginia.”

Foster, who had previously been an Assistant Majority Whip, has represented the 15th District in the House since his first election in 2014. He most recently served as Chairman of the Legislature’s Joint Labor and Worker Safety Issues Committee, as well as Vice-Chairman of the House Industry and Labor Committee. He also serves on the House Judiciary and Political Subdivisions committees.
