HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 31

Requesting that the State of West Virginia, in cooperation with
the Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers, devise a plan to dredge portions of the
West Fork River from Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia,
to the Stonewall Jackson flood control dam in Weston, Lewis
County, West Virginia, and to remove abandoned and
deteriorated bridges and dams thereon.
Whereas, Many citizens of the West Fork River valley suffered
extensive damage to residential and commercial property due to
recent flooding, and future flooding remains a risk to the
citizens of this area; and
Whereas, Dredging the West Fork River would minimize future
flood damage; and
Whereas, Abandoned and deteriorated bridges and dams on the
West Fork River obstruct the flow of water and detract from its
natural scenic beauty, and their removal would alleviate these
problems; and
Whereas, Dredging the West Fork River would enhance recreational opportunities and natural scenic beauty and would
increase tourism; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the State of West Virginia, in cooperation with the
Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers, devise a plan to dredge portions of the West Fork
River from Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia, to the
Stonewall Jackson flood control dam in Weston, Lewis County, West
Virginia, and to remove abandoned and deteriorated bridges and
dams thereon; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
is hereby directed to forward copies of this resolution to the
Department of Environmental Protection, the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers, and the cities of Fairmont and Weston.
