Requesting the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to take
a proactive service philosophy to include vast improvements in
customer service; reducing waiting times during clinic
appointments; expanding more outpatient care of the medical
centers; activating additional access points for community
based outpatient clinics within West Virginia; expanding
programs for women veterans and making improvements in patient
parking.
Whereas, In as much as the United States government is
continuing health care reform with government-wide and veterans
affairs downsizing and reorganization; and
Whereas, The West Virginia Legislature of 1998 expects the road
ahead to be very challenging; and
Whereas, That in spite of the challenges we all face, there is
a commitment to providing quality and compassionate care to our
nation's veterans; and
Whereas, The United States Department of Veterans Affairs will
continue to serve as a symbol of excellence and leadership in the
health care marketplace; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the United States Department of Veterans Affairs be
encouraged to be the leader in medical research, education and
innovative systems of health care delivery; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the facilities of the United States
Department of Veterans Affairs provide comprehensive primary and
full specialty care within a managed care environment; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the facilities of the United States
Department of Veterans Affairs be the employer of choice for health
care workers and to be the health care provider of choice for all
veterans; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the United States Department of
Veterans Affairs be urged to provide adequate funding to existing
West Virginia facilities administered by the Department, so that
those deserving West Virginia veterans no longer need to travel out
of state to obtain quality health care.
