HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION Number 3

to the Committee on Technology and Infrastructure then the Committee on Rules]

Requesting the Division of Highways name a bridge bearing the Bridge Number: 08-016/00-007.44  (08A040), (38.35407, -81.14921) locally known as SYCAMORE CK BR 7.44, carrying WV 16 over SYCAMORE CREEK in Clay County as the "Legg Brothers WWII Veterans Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, The Legg Family was made up of five sons of Breckenridge and Lilly Legg from Indore, Clay County; and

Whereas, According to their dates of service, all five Legg sons served during the WWII years; and

Whereas, Charles Gilbert Legg was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945, where he was in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaign; earning the following medals: European, Africa, and Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, and well as the Good Conduct Medal; and

Whereas, Walter S. Legg was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945, where he earned the following decorations and citations:  Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal; and

Whereas, Russell Brooks Legg was enlisted in the U.S. Navy from January 1944- August 1944, where he held the title of Apprentice Seaman and Fireman First Class; and

Whereas, Homer S. Legg was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945, engaging in the following campaigns:  Algeria-French Morocco; Sicily; Normandy France; Naples-Foggia, and earned the following medals and decorations:  EAME Theater Ribbon with 5 Bronze Stars, and the Good Conduct Ribbon; and

Whereas, William M. Legg was enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946, where he serviced on the USNTC, Landing Craft School, and the U.S.S. Oneida, earning the following medals: ALNAV, Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Medal; and

Whereas, For these reasons it is fitting and proper that the bridge be named in honor of these five brothers who loyally served their state and country; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways name a bridge bearing the Bridge Number: 08-016/00-007.44  () (08A040), (38.35407, -81.14921) locally known as SYCAMORE CK BR 7.44, carrying WV 16 over SYCAMORE CREEK in Clay County as the "Legg Brothers WWII Veterans Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of the Division of Highways is requested to erect signs at both ends of the bridge containing bold and prominent letters proclaiming the bridge as the "Legg Brothers WWII Veterans Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
