HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 3

Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 08-016/00-007.44 (08A040), (38.35407, -81.14921) locally known as SYCAMORE CK BR 7.44, carrying WV 16 over SYCAMORE CREEK in Clay County as the "Legg Brothers WWII Veterans Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, The Legg Family was made up of five sons of Breckenridge and Lilly Legg from Indore, Clay County; and

Whereas, According to their dates of service, all five Legg sons served during the WWII years; and

Whereas, Charles G. Legg was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945, where he was in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns; earning the following medals: European-Africa-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, 3 Bronze Service Stars, as well as the Good Conduct Medal; and

Whereas, Walter S. Legg was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945, where he earned the following decorations and citations: Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal; and

Whereas, Russell B. Legg was enlisted in the U.S. Navy from January to August of 1944, where he held the title of Apprentice Seaman and Fireman First Class; and

Whereas, Homer S. Legg was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945, engaging in the following campaigns: French-Algeria and Morocco; Sicily; Normandy, France; Naples-Foggia, and earned the following medals and decorations: European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, 5 Bronze Service Stars, and the Good Conduct Ribbon; and

Whereas, William M. Legg was enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946, where he served at the United States Naval Training Center Bainbridge, Landing Craft School, and aboard the U.S.S. Oneida, earning the following medals: Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate these five brothers who loyally served their state and country; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways name bridge number 08-016/00-007.44 (08A040), (38.35407, -81.14921) locally known as SYCAMORE CK BR 7.44, carrying WV 16 over SYCAMORE CREEK in Clay County as the "Legg Brothers WWII Veterans Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of the Division of Highways is requested to erect signs at both ends of the bridge containing bold and prominent letters proclaiming the bridge as the "Legg Brothers WWII Veterans Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
