A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §6-7-2b, relating to exception to limitation on salaries of certain appointive state officers.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §6-7-2b, to read as follows:
ARTICLE 7. COMPENSATION AND ALLOWANCES.
§6-7-2b. Authority to receive a certain salary.
Commencing July 1, 2014, a state employee who has been in his or her position at least two years prior to being appointed to the position of a state officer as set out in section two-a of this article, who receives a salary in his or her position that is higher than the state officer salary, is authorized to continue receiving the higher salary while serving as the appointive state officer.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to permit state employees to be appointed to and serve in certain state offices for which salaries are set by statute, without taking a reduction in pay.
