SENATE RESOLUTION 26

Designating February 6, 2024, as Preston County Day at the Legislature.

Whereas, Preston County recognizes child care facilities as an essential workforce for our economy that allow families access to this care that is required so they may safely and responsibly go to work and know their children are in trusted hands; and

Whereas, Child care professionals play a significant role in cultivating, supporting, and educating young children in a warm, loving, and culturally competent environment to meet the needs of our families; and

Whereas, By calling attention to the importance of quality child care services for all children and families in our communities, Preston County is working with state officials and other organizations to enhance the quality and availability of these vital services; and

Whereas, The COVID pandemic clearly demonstrated how indispensable child care facilities are to maintaining and sustaining the consistent wellbeing and economic security of West Virginia’s young children, families, and the community; and

Whereas, Preston County recognizes child care providers throughout the state for their dedication to providing quality care and learning services, and for the fundamental role they play in our children’s future, our workforce, and our economy; and 

Whereas, The citizens of Preston County travel to the State Capitol on an annual basis during the legislative session to share this heritage and participate in the democratic process, in which they share their accomplishments, aspirations and concerns with lawmakers; and

Whereas, It is fitting to recognize Preston County for its history, culture, economy, and future development in the State of West Virginia; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby designates February 6, 2024, as Preston County Day at the Legislature; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Senate hereby recognizes the many important contributions the citizens and businesses of Preston County make to the State of West Virginia, and encourages those citizens to participate in the democratic process; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the appropriate Preston County representatives.
