SENATE RESOLUTION 41

(By Senators Maynard, Rucker, Karnes, and Plymale)

[Introduced February 15, 2024]

 

Designating February 16, 2024, as Adventure Travel Day at the Legislature.

Whereas, West Virginia is exceptionally blessed with scenic landscapes for adventure travel; and

Whereas, West Virginia is called the Mountain State because it is the only state located entirely within the Appalachian mountain range; and

Whereas, West Virginia is home to the New River Gorge National Park, 36 state parks, nine state forests, three rail trails, and more than 28,000 acres of lakes and rivers; and

Whereas, Over 1,000 miles of trails on our mountainous hills provide a terrain for overlanding, off-roading, bicycling, mountain biking, skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, rappelling, and horseback riding just to name a few adventures that you can enjoy in West Virginia; and

Whereas, When discovering West Virginia, your outdoor experience can involve climbing a rugged rock face or kayaking along a peaceful lake.  You can hike to the depths and explore hidden caverns or hike to the highest point in the state for extraordinary mountain views; and

Whereas, Other benefits of adventure travel allow you to expand your mind and thoughts, improve your physical and mental health, attain personal growth, learn new skills, and more importantly, unplug and enjoy the great outdoor adventures; and

Whereas, Adventure travel can be enjoyed alone, with a spouse, best friend, or your family; and

Whereas, West Virginia offers world-class outdoor adventures where our country roads take you to our small hometowns that are known worldwide for their hospitality; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby designates February 16, 2024, as Adventure Travel Day at the Legislature.
