SENATE RESOLUTION 52

(By Senators Maynard and Rucker)

[Introduced February 22, 2024]

 

Designating February 23, 2024, as West Virginia Motorsports Day at the Legislature.

Whereas, Motorsports is defined as the racing of motor vehicles, particularly cars and motorcycles, and related activities that involve the use of automobiles, motorcycles, motorboats, and powered aircraft; and

Whereas, West Virginia offers a wide assortment of motorsports through a variety of trails, racetracks, and terrains; and

Whereas, West Virginia enjoys a culture of people who embrace motorsports as an integral part of their recreation; and

Whereas, West Virginia reflects many types of motorsports throughout the state; sports car racing, stock car racing, motorcycle racing, go-kart racing, off-road racing, demolition derbies, truck and tractor pulls, drag racing, rally racing, Grand Prix racing, drifting, hill climbing, and many other choices of motorsports; and

Whereas, Motorsport industry's benefits to a state can be seen through the jobs creation they bring, the billions of dollars to the economy through construction of facilities, wholesalers, retailers, participants, and spectators; and

Whereas, Motorsports strengthen and build a community by bringing people from all walks of life together to celebrate their love of high-performance vehicles; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby designates February 23, 2024, as West Virginia Motorsports Day at the Legislature.
