SENATE RESOLUTION 7

(By Senators Rucker, Woelfel, Hamilton, and Plymale)

[Introduced January 16, 2023]

 

Designating January 17, 2023, as Girl Scouts Day at the Legislature.

Whereas, Girl Scouts is a youth organization for girls that was founded in 1912, and has sustained the test of time; and

Whereas, Girl Scouts has proven to be successful by helping young girls realize their potential by fostering a sense of community, and relating to others with understanding, respect, and developing values to guide them in their actions; and

Whereas, Girl Scouts work to advocate the ambitions, cultivate talents, and develop invaluable life skills of girls to self-confidently pursue their passions; and

Whereas, Girl Scouts plays an indispensable role in engaging girls in after-school and out-of-school programming and experiences that expand their view and allow them to develop and grow as healthy young women; and

Whereas, Girl Scouts engages girls of all grade levels in civics programming that deepens their understanding of democracy and government, prepares them for a lifetime of civic engagement, and motivates them to act on issues that are important to them; and

Whereas, Girl Scouts provides 21st century programming in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM); the outdoors; entrepreneurship; and more, helping girls achieve their dreams; and

Whereas, Gold Award Girl Scouts take on projects that have a measurable impact on a community by assessing a need, designing a solution, completing a project, and inspiring others to maintain it; and

Whereas, Today, more than 50 million women are Girl Scouts alums who are trailblazers, visionaries, and leaders who have made the world a better place; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby designates January 17, 2023, as Girl Scouts Day at the Legislature; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council.
