Charleston, WV - West Virginia State Senate Majority Leader, John Unger, (D-Berkeley), will present two honors to Berkeley County Clerk, John Small, at noon, today, at the Historic Berkeley County Courthouse. A certificate of recognition will be presented on behalf of the West Virginia Senate, while the Distinguished West Virginian Award will be presented on behalf of Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. βI sought this recognition for John, because he has been a personable and trustworthy clerk and has served his constituents well,β said Senator Unger, βHe certainly deserves these honors.β After being appointed to the position of Berkeley County Clerk following the death of Eugene Dunham on September 17, 1971, John Small was elected in 1974 and re-elected in each consecutive election since. He is the longest serving elected officeholder in Berkeley County history. |
