Open Minds Welcome For Special Session

Charleston, W.Va. - Budget press releases are coming out in droves from West Virginia Legislators. These press releases have a common theme, digging in on long held positions.

Delegate Andrew Robinson, D-Kanawha, suggests, “We all should come to the special session with open minds, rather than publish press releases talking about all the things we don’t agree on. We saw how signing pledges and making decisions without knowing the facts worked out last year.”

“The 2016 special session cost taxpayers over $600,000 and to avoid the same outcome legislators should not make up their minds prior to coming back to Charleston and hearing all the facts.” Robinson continues, “Press releases with attacks on the only plan on the table do nothing, but cause further disruption to negotiations.”

“In beginning negotiations parties should always begin with the issues they agree on, rather than highlighting the areas they disagree. I encourage all legislators to not dig in on their positions and be open-minded as we attempt to do what is right for West Virginia as a whole.” Governor Jim Justice has called for a special session beginning May 4, 2017.
