Delegate Upson Thanks HEPC, Gov. Justice for Extending PROMISE Scholarship Deadline

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Delegate Jill Upson, R-Jefferson, today thanked the Higher Education Policy Commission and Gov. Jim Justice for agreeing to extend the PROMISE Scholarship deadline until March 30.

Delegate Upson had earlier this week sent a letter to HEPC Chancellor Paul Hill asking the deadline to be extended due to the continuing statewide schools strike.

Tuesday morning, the HEPC notified Delegate Upson that they would grant her request to extend the deadline. During his Tuesday afternoon press conference to sign House Bill 4145, Gov. Justice announced the deadline would be extended to March 30.

“This is terrific news for our students,” Delegate Upson said. “No student should suffer or have their future educational opportunities put in doubt due to this work stoppage. This delay will allow our students to meet with their guidance counselors to receive the proper assistance to fill out these important aid forms.

“I am grateful to the HEPC and Governor Justice for putting our students first and granting this delay,” Delegate Upson said.
