S Wilson House Article V Subcomiittee

Subcommittee to Hold Public Hearing on Article V Convention Proposals

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A House of Delegates subcommittee next week will conduct a public hearing to receive input on resolutions calling for an Article V Convention to propose amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

The public hearing will take place Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 8 a.m. in the House Chamber.

“Article V of the U.S. Constitution allows states to call a convention to propose amendments to the U.S. Constitution which can then be considered for ratification by the Legislatures of the several states,” said Delegate Marshall Wilson, R-Berkeley, who is leading the subcommittee. “The convention is triggered when two-thirds of the states adopt resolutions calling for it.”

The subcommittee is currently considering House Concurrent Resolution 33 and House Joint Resolution 14, both of which call for the convention. Recommended amendment topics include congressional term limits, fiscal restraints on the federal government and limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.

“If you have any interest in these issues, please make your concerns known by attending and potentially speaking at the hearing,” Delegate Wilson said. “If you are unable to attend, please advise your legislators of your concerns via email or telephone call.”
