Senators Facemire and Kirkendoll Appointed to Southern States Energy Board

CHARLESTON, WV - Senate President Jeff Kessler (D-Marshall) announced today he has appointed Senators Doug Facemire (D-Braxton) and Art Kirkendoll (D-Logan) to serve on the Southern States Energy Board (SSEB).

The SSEB is a non-profit interstate compact created in 1960 to enhance economic development and the quality of life in the South through innovations in energy and environmental policies, programs and technologies.

“As Chairman and former Vice-Chair of the Energy, Industry and Mining Committee, Senator Facemire brings viable knowledge and experience to the SSEB,” says Kessler. “His experience provides the necessary understanding and knowledge to work with each member of the SSEB to promote the well-being of all citizens in our great State and the SSEB region.”

The SSEB was created by state law and consented to by Congress with a broad mandate to contribute to the economic and community well-being of the southern region.

“Senator Kirkendoll’s vast experience in local and state government, as well as his knowledge of the coal industry and its importance to the state’s economy and workforce, makes him an excellent choice to serve on the SSEB,” says Kessler.

Sixteen southern states and two territories comprise the membership of SSEB: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia and West Virginia.
