A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by
adding thereto a new section, designated §18A-3-12, relating
to enacting the Jason Flatt Act of 2009; and requiring suicide
prevention training for all teachers and principals.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended
by adding thereto a new section, designated §18A-3-12, to read as
follows:
ARTICLE 3. TRAINING, CERTIFICATION, LICENSING, PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT.
§18A-3-12. Suicide prevention training required.
(a) This act may be known and cited as the "Jason Flatt Act of
2009".
(b) All teachers and principals shall successfully complete at
least two hours of suicide prevention education each school year, under guidelines established by the State Board of Education. This
education may be accomplished through self-review of suicide
prevention materials approved by the state board.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require annual suicide
prevention training for all teachers and principals.
