A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by
adding thereto a new section, designated §46A-6-104a, relating
to
preventing a merchant from
soliciting a consumer's
telephone number during a retail sales transaction unless the
information is required for a legitimate purpose to complete
the sales transaction.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding
thereto a new section, designated §46A-6-104a, to read as follows:
ARTICLE 6. GENERAL CONSUMER PROTECTION.
§46A-6-104a. Consumer privacy in retail sales transactions.
A merchant may not solicit a consumer's telephone number
during a retail sales transaction unless the information is
required for a legitimate purpose to complete the sales
transaction.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to prevent a merchant from
soliciting a consumer's telephone number during a retail sales
transaction unless the information is required for a legitimate
purpose to complete the sales transaction.
