HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 40
(By Delegate Perdue and Mr. Speaker, Mr. Thompson)
Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 50-37-15.43,
located near West Virginia Route 37 and West Virginia Route
152 in the town of Wayne, Wayne County, the "Ernie Wallace
Bridge."
Whereas, Ernie Wallace was born January 30, 1944, in Wayne,
West Virginia; and
Whereas, After graduation from Wayne County High School, Ernie
Wallace enlisted in the Marine Corps, which resulted in a
twenty-two year career; and
Whereas, Ernie Wallace was a highly decorated veteran, having
received numerous awards, including the Navy Cross, the second-
highest medal awarded by the Department of the Navy and the second-
highest award given for valor; and
Whereas, Ernie Wallace earned the Navy Cross for heroic action
during Operation Starlite, the first major campaign of the Vietnam
War; and
Whereas, After a long and courageous battle with lung cancer,
Ernie Wallace passed away on March 11, 2008; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Legislature hereby requests the Division of Highways
to name bridge number 50-37-15.43, located near West Virginia Route
37 and West Virginia Route 152 in the town of Wayne, Wayne County,
the "Ernie Wallace Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is requested
to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the
"Ernie Wallace Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Secretary of
Transportation, the Commissioner of Highways, and the family of the
late Ernie Wallace.
