SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO.42

Requesting the Division of Highways to name the new bridge crossing
Mate Creek near Matewan, Mingo County, the "William M. Taylor
Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, William M. Taylor was born January 5, 1923, in
Kermit, West Virginia, the son of the late William F. and Alice
Smith Taylor; and

Whereas, William M. Taylor, while attending Inez High School
in Kentucky, excelled in basketball. He was a member of the first
area basketball team to capture a state championship; and

![](tabb36.gif)
Whereas, William M. Taylor served his nation with pride and
distinction in Europe during World War II as a gunner for the
United States Air Force; and

Whereas, William M. Taylor was married to his beloved wife
Kathleen Cline Taylor, with whom he shared to joy of having two
daughters; and

Whereas, William M. Taylor distinguished himself in his
community as a prominent businessman. As the owner of Chambers
Funeral Home in Matewan, his compassion and caring for his fellow
man contributed to his prominence in the community; and

Whereas, Sadly, William M. Taylor passed away on February 14, 2000, leaving behind a loving family and a grieving community who
has suffered a loss which cannot be weighed; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Legislature hereby requests the Division of Highways
to name the new bridge crossing Mate Creek, near Matewan, Mingo
County, the "William M. Taylor Memorial Bridge" as a lasting
tribute to a man who dedicated his life to helping others in times
of need; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner
of the Division of Highways and the members of the family of
William M. Taylor.
