A BILL to amend and reenact §7-14-17c of the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, relating to clarifying the amount of a deputy sheriff’s annual salary increase for subsequent years of service.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
ARTICLE 14. CIVIL SERVICE FOR DEPUTY SHERIFFS.
§7-14-17c. Salary increment.
(a) Every deputy sheriff with one year or more of
service shall receive an annual salary increase in the sum of $5 per month for
multiplied by each year month of service. In each subsequent
year of service, on the anniversary of the deputy sheriff’s date of hire, he or
she shall receive a salary increase in the amount of $5 per month for each
month of service since the deputy’s hire date. For example, a deputy sheriff
with one year of service from their date of hire would receive $60 in their
second year of service, $120 in their third year of service, and $180 in their
fourth year of service.
(b) Any incremental salary increase in effect prior to the effective date of this section that is more favorable to the deputy sheriffs entitled to such increase shall remain in full force and effect to the exclusion of the provisions of this section.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to clarify the annual salary increase amounts that are due to deputy sheriffs.
