A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new article, designated §4-1-24, relating to providing that paralegals and analysts who have been certified by a national association and who have been employed by the Legislature for two years are certified paralegals for all purposes within the state; and providing that the certification is a lifetime certification.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


ARTICLE 1. OFFICERS, MEMBERS AND EMPLOYEES; APPROPRIATIONS; INVESTIGATIONS; DISPLAY OF FLAGS; RECORDS; USE OF CAPITOL BUILDING; PREFILING OF BILLS AND RESOLUTIONS; STANDING COMMITTEES; INTERIM MEETINGS; NEXT MEETING OF THE SENATE.


§4-1-24.  Paralegals and legal analysts.

Paralegals and analysts who have been certified by a national association, such as NALA, the National Association of Legal Assistants, and NALS, the Association for Legal Professionals, who have been employed by the Legislature for two years or more as a paralegal or legal analyst are certified paralegals for all purposes within the State of West Virginia. The certification granted by this section is a lifetime certification.


 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to provide that paralegals and analysts who have been certified by a national association and who have been employed by the Legislature for two years are certified paralegals for all purposes within the state. The bill provides that the certification is a lifetime certification.
