SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 41
(By Senators Stollings, Unger, Deem, Jenkins, Foster, Plymale,
Minard, McCabe, Yost, Wells and Tomblin (Mr. President))
Designating March 25, 2009, as "West Virginia Automobile Dealership
Day".
Whereas, There are over 176 car dealerships in the State of
West Virginia; and
Whereas, The role car dealerships play in our state's economy
is of vital importance to the growth and prosperity of our
citizens, as they employ 6,800 people; and
Whereas, The car dealerships of West Virginia are collectors
of approximately $2 million in Road Fund tax and contribute
hundreds of millions of dollars to the state revenue through sales,
payroll and corporate taxes; and
Whereas, The services car dealerships provide to our citizens
is of unique importance. Despite the strain of an economic
downturn and a decrease in the level of automobile manufacturing on
a national scale, state dealerships have remained strong and
contribute to the community on a local level; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby designates March 25, 2009, as "West
Virginia Automobile Dealership Day"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate recognizes the importance of automobile dealers in the economic future of West Virginia; and, be
it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the President of the West Virginia
Automobile and Truck Dealers Association.
