Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to make
an interim study of orphan roads and bridges in the State of
West Virginia.
Whereas, Many orphan roads and county owned bridges exist in
this State; and
Whereas, Most of these orphan roads and county owned bridges
are in need of repair and regular maintenance; and
Whereas, Only the State is able to undertake these repairs and maintenance; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance, in
cooperation with the department of transportation, is hereby
requested to review, examine and study the orphan roads and
county owned bridges and develop ways which are feasible and
advisable and to make recommendations on ways to include them in
the state road system; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and
Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 1998,
on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with
drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its
recommendations; and, be it
Further Resolved, That expenses necessary to conduct this
study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be
paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on
Government and Finance.
