A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by
adding thereto a new section, designated §8-12-12a, relating
to municipalities; and authorizing, by ordinance, certain
veterans to park free.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended
by adding thereto a new section, designated §8-12-12a, to read as
follows:
ARTICLE 12. GENERAL AND SPECIFIC POWERS, DUTIES AND ALLIED
RELATIONS OF MUNICIPALITIES, GOVERNING BODIES AND
MUNICIPAL OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES; SUITS AGAINST
MUNICIPALITIES.
§8-12-12a. Power and authority to provide for free parking for
certain veterans.
(a) A municipality may provide, by ordinance, free parking to
disabled veterans, prisoners of war, survivors of the attack on
Pearl Harbor, recipients of the Distinguished Purple Heart Medal,
the Navy Cross, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Distinguished
Flying Cross, the Air Force Cross, the Bronze Star Medal and the
Silver Star Medal.
(b) To be eligible for free parking, a person must have a
special registration plate with a designation listed in subsection
(a) of this section, pursuant to the provisions of section
fourteen, article three, chapter seventeen-a of this code.
