(By Senators Plymale, Scott, Helmick, Ross, Bailey, White,

Blatnik, Chafin, Kimble, Dugan and Tomblin, Mr. President)
Requesting the Marshall University Thundering Herd football team
and the West Virginia University Mountaineer football team
to participate in an annual football game.
Whereas, There is little that will stir the passions and
athletic loyalty of most West Virginians more than a sports
competition between the two state universities, Marshall
University and West Virginia University; and
Whereas, Such an emotionally charged event as an annual
competition between Marshall University's Thundering Herd and
West Virginia University's Mountaineer football teams would
generate highly charged interests from various fragments of West
Virginia's society, both public and private; and
Whereas, Beginning in 1997, and every fourth year
thereafter, the annual football game between Marshall University
and West Virginia University should be held in the city of
Huntington, West Virginia; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby requests that an annual football game
be played between both of West Virginia's outstanding
institutions of higher education, Marshall University and West
Virginia University; and, beginning in 1997, and every fourth
year thereafter, the annual football game should be played in the
city of Huntington, West Virginia; and, be it
Further Resolved,
That the Clerk is hereby directed to
forward a copy of this resolution to the president, head football
coach and athletic director of Marshall University and the
