SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 21
(By Senators Tomblin, Mr. President, and Jackson)
Recognizing the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of Boone County,
West Virginia.
Whereas, On March 11, 1847, the seventy-first legislative
session of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia
enacted legislation creating a new county, formed from the existing
counties of Kanawha, Cabell and Logan; and
Whereas, The new county was named for Daniel Boone, noted
hunter and explorer, who made his home in the great Kanawha Valley
from 1788 to 1795. In 1791, he served as a member of the Virginia
General Assembly from Kanawha County; and
Whereas, During its one hundred fifty years of existence as a
county of both Virginia and West Virginia, Boone County has been
ranked near the top in coal production statistics. The five
hundred six square miles of Boone County have more coal reserves
than any other place in the world that is equal to its size; and

thirty-minute drive to West Virginia's capital city of Charleston
and less than six hundred miles to two thirds of the nation's

counties, contingent on its youth. The progressive educational system stimulates the minds of young Boone countians and prepares

variety of quality educational opportunities from kindergarten to
high school, vocational-technical school and the Boone County
