SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 23

Fanning, Wooton, Buckalew, Snyder, Jackson, Chafin, Kimble,
Plymale, Bowman, Minear and Tomblin, Mr. President)
Congratulating Concord College mens' basketball team for winning
the 1997 West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
championship.
Whereas, The Concord College mens' basketball team captured
the 1997 West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
championship; and
Whereas, By virtue of its victory, the Concord team will
represent the West Virginia conference in the playoffs of the
National Collegiate Athletic Association; and
Whereas, The Concord College mens' basketball team has
appeared in five of the last nine championship games of the WVIAC
tournament, winning the title in 1989, 1991, 1995 and 1997; and
Whereas, Concord College student-athlete Kelly Mann of
Peterstown, West Virginia, was named the most valuable player in
the 1997 WVIAC tournament; and
Whereas, Kelly Mann is joined on the All-Conference tournament
first team by two Concord College teammates, Daniel Hicks of
Charleston, West Virginia, and Jon Griffin of Saltville, Virginia; and
Whereas, Concord College mens' basketball head coach Steve Cox
has earned the respect of fans, coaches and other observers of the
West Virginia athletic scene for his integrity as well as his
coaching skill; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby congratulates the Concord College mens'
basketball team for winning the 1997 West Virginia Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference cChampionship; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate hereby congratulates the
coaching staff of the Concord College mens' basketball team,
consisting of head coach Steve Cox, assistant Randy Jennings and
athletic director Don Christie for their accomplishments,
dedication and teamwork; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate hereby congratulates Concord
College basketball player Kelly Mann of Peterstown, West Virginia,
for his selection as the most valuable player in the 1997 WVIAC
tournament and, to Daniel Hicks of Charleston, West Virginia, and Jon
Griffin of Saltville, Virginia, for their selection to the All- Conference tournament first team; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the president of Concord College; the
coaching staff of the mens' basketball team; and, to Kelly Mann,
Daniel Hick and Jon Griffin.
