A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be
amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §15-2-53,
relating to the waiver or reimbursement of tuition and fees
for members of the West Virginia State Police attending
institutions of higher education.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended
by adding thereto a new section, designated §15-2-53, to read as
follows:
ARTICLE 2. WEST VIRGINIA STATE POLICE.
§15-2-53. Waiver or reimbursement of tuition and fees for members
of the State Police attending institutions of higher
education.
(a) Any member of the State Police who is enrolled in a course
of undergraduate or graduate study and is attending an accredited college or university that is a state-supported school located in
West Virginia shall receive a waiver of tuition and fees from that
college or university during the period of his or her service in
the State Police.
(b) Any member of the State Police who is enrolled in a course
of undergraduate or graduate study and is attending an accredited
college or university that is a private school located in West
Virginia shall receive reimbursement for tuition and fees incurred
at that college or university during the period of his or her
service in the State Police in an amount to be determined by the
superintendent, but which may not exceed the highest tuition and
fees payable at any state-supported school.
(c) The superintendent shall propose rules for legislative
approval in accordance with the provisions of article three,
chapter twenty-nine-a of this code to prescribe eligibility
criteria for a tuition and fees waiver or reimbursement, and to
otherwise implement the provisions of this section.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to provide for a waiver or
reimbursement of tuition and fees for members of the West Virginia
State Police attending institutions of higher education.
