HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 54

Referred to the Committee on Technology and Infrastructure then the Committee on Rules

 

Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 40-035/00-015.27 (NB & SB) (40A177, 40A179), (38.61845, -81.99839) locally known as Plantation Road Bridge, carrying US 35 over Plantation Creek in Putnam County, West Virginia, the "U.S. Army PFC Russell Richard Ferguson Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, Russell Richard Ferguson was born on February 2, 1920, in Frazier's Bottom, West Virginia; and

Whereas, PFC Ferguson served his country with the Army during World War II in the Battle of Bulge; and  

Whereas, PFC Ferguson was an avid farmer and well known homebuilder.  When he told someone something he made sure it happened. He was a man of his word; and

Whereas, PFC Ferguson was the proud father of three children who also served in the armed forces: Arnold Ray, who served in the Vietnam War, Robert Gale, who served in Germany, and his only daughter, Lois Kay, who served in Okinawa. All three children lived and worked in Putnam County; and

Whereas, PFC Ferguson loved his community with all of his heart and supported the community any way he could; and

Whereas, On July 1, 2008, PFC Ferguson left this world with a heart of gold and he also made his footsteps in cement for his family; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate PFC Ferguson and his contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 40-035/00-015.27 (NB & SB) (40A177, 40A179), (38.61845, -81.99839) locally known as Plantation Road Bridge, carrying US 35 over Plantation Creek in Putnam County, West Virginia, the "U.S. Army PFC Russell Richard Ferguson Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U. S. Army PFC Russell Richard Ferguson Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
