Requesting the Division of Highways name a stretch of County Route 19 in Summers County, beginning at the intersection of Route 19/1 and County Route 19, and ending at the Monroe County line, locally known as Wayside Talcott Road, the "U. S. Army SGT Brian Christopher Karim Memorial Road".

Whereas, Brian Christopher Karim was born on January 27, 1983, in Talcott, Summers County, West Virginia, the son of Garland and Vera Adkins of Talcott. He graduated from Summers County High School, married Rachel Lasley, and they had a daughter Janessa, age 2, at the time of his death; and

Whereas, Twenty-two year old U. S. Army SGT Brian Christopher Karim was in the Army's 2nd Battalion, 70th Armor, 3rd Brigade Combat Team from Fort Riley, Kansas, serving his second tour, in Salah al-Din, Iraq, on December 13, 2005; where his unit was conducting combat operations when an improvised explosive device detonated near their armored vehicle, killing him and two other soldiers; and

Whereas, U. S. Army SGT Brian Christopher Karim, was awarded posthumously the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and other medals recognizing his service conduct and presence in Iraq; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate U.S. Army SGT Brian Christopher Karim, a son, husband, and father who made the ultimate sacrifice for his family, state, and country; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name a stretch of County Route 19 in Summers County, beginning at the intersection of Route 19/1 and County Route 19, and ending at the Monroe County line, locally known as Wayside Talcott Road, the "U. S. Army SGT Brian Christopher Karim Memorial Road".

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the road as the "U. S. Army SGT Brian Christopher Karim Memorial Road"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
