SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 15

(By Senators Maynard, Plymale, and Woelfel)

[Introduced February 16, 2023]

Permitting the West Virginia Department of Tourism to proceed with procuring bids and interest in companies to place a lodge on the property of Beech Fork Lake.

Whereas, The construction of a lodge on the property of Beech Fork Lake will drive economic development for southwest West Virginia, as well as create public and private partnership opportunities; and

Whereas, Beech Fork Lake is one of the largest lakes in the tri-state region, drawing visitors from West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio; and

Whereas, Visitors who come to West Virginia from out of state to enjoy the lake may wish to stay on site with a lodge on the lake property; and

Whereas, There is an opportunity to explore leasing lots for private cabin construction; and

Whereas, Beech Fork Lake is already a ready-made attraction for tourism in West Virginia, providing fishing, camping, boating, and other outdoor activities, and the creation of a lodge on the lake property would increase the amount of visitors to this destination; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature:

That the West Virginia Department of Tourism proceed with procuring bids and interest in companies to place a lodge on the property of Beech Fork Lake; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate forward a copy of this resolution to the West Virginia Department of Tourism.
