SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 84

Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance study
granting acupuncture physicians prescriptive authority.
Whereas, The State of West Virginia licenses acupuncture
physicians to employ oriental medical therapies for the purpose of
pain control and for the promotion, maintenance and restoration of
health; and
Whereas, Treatments by acupuncturists and acupuncture
physicians
have proved beneficial to many residents of this state;
and
Whereas, Some oriental medical therapies involving the
compounding and dispensing of herbs, vitamins and other substances
may be valid and beneficial; and
Whereas, There is currently no regulation of the dispensing of
herbs, vitamins and other substances by acupuncturists and
acupuncture physicians; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby
requested to study granting acupuncture physicians prescriptive
authority; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and
Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 2006, on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts
of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations;
and, be it
Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this
study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be
paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on
Government and Finance.
