SENATE RESOLUTION 26

(By Senators Woodrum, Plymale, and Deeds)

Commemorating and honoring the life, military service, and the ultimate sacrifice of U.S. Army SGT Brian Christopher Karim.

Whereas, Brian Christopher Karim was born on January 27, 1983, in Talcott, Summers County, West Virginia, the son of Garland and Vera Adkins of Talcott. He graduated from Summers County High School and married Rachel Lasley, they had a daughter Janessa (age 2 at the time of his death); and

Whereas, Twenty-two year old SGT Brian Christopher Karim was in the Army's 2nd Battalion, 70th Armor, 3rd Brigade Combat Team from Fort Riley, Kansas, serving his second tour, in Salah ad Din, Iraq, on December 13, 2005, where his unit was conducting combat operations when an improvised explosive device detonated near their armored vehicle killing him and two other soldiers; and

Whereas, SGT Brian Christopher Karim, was awarded posthumously the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and other medals recognizing his service conduct and presence in Iraq; and

Whereas, The life, military service, and ultimate sacrifice of the young soldier U.S. Army SGT Brian Christopher Karim should be recognized, remembered, and memorialized; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby commemorates and honors the life and military service of SGT Brian Christopher Karim, son, husband, and father who made the ultimate sacrifice for his family, state, and country; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to his surviving family members.
