HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 25

Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to make a study of video poker machines.

Whereas, Video poker machines reap millions of dollars in untaxed profits for tavern owners and machine distributors; and
Whereas, Gambling on these machines is against state law but it happens thousands of times daily; and
Whereas, If these devices could be licensed players would be protected and the state would gain fifty million dollars a year revenue; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby requested to study the video poker machines and develop programs which are feasible and make recommendations to the Legislature regarding the same; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 1998, on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance.
