HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 26

Naming U.S. Route 60 from Lewisburg to Charleston and State Route 62 from Charleston to Point Pleasant the "Colonel Andrew Lewis Trail."

Whereas, This route through West Virginia, traversed by an American colonial army under Colonel Andrew Lewis in September and October, 1774, led to one of the most historic military battles of the frontier; and

Whereas, The Battle of Point Pleasant on October 10, 1774, was recognized by the United States Congress on May 30, 1908, as the First Battle of the American Revolution; and
Whereas, The valor, endurance and military skills of that colonial army were of the highest level and should be held out as models of the best of human attributes; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That U.S. Route 60 from Lewisburg to Charleston and State Route 62 from Charleston to Point Pleasant be hereby named the "Colonel Andrew Lewis Trail"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the West Virginia Department of Transportation, Division of Highways, is directed to place and maintain appropriate markers to so indicate and designate the route; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates be hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Governor and the Secretary of Transportation.
