HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 6
(By Mr. Speaker, Mr. Chambers,
and Delegates Spencer,
Prezioso, Ashcraft, Rowe, S. Williams, Mezzatesta,
Houvouras, Compton, Brum and Manuel)
Requesting the higher education governing bodies to adopt a fee waiver policy for students involved in community service, including students providing assistance to other students with disabilities.
Whereas,
The federal government has established a program to provide financial assistance to college students who are employed in community services; and
Whereas,
Many college students with disabilities fight overwhelming odds to participate in college education programs; and
Whereas,
Students who work as readers for the blind, peer monitors or in any other capacity which enables more students to benefit from a college education are performing a valuable community service; and
Whereas,
Over forty thousand children in this State have been identified as having a disability; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the higher education governing bodies are hereby requested to adopt a fee waiver policy for students involved in community service, including students providing assistance to other students with disabilities; and, be it
Further Resolved,
That the Clerk of the House of Delegates forward a copy of this resolution to each member of the Board of Directors of the State College System and to each member of the University of West Virginia Board of Trustees.
