HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 12

Designating March 13, 2001, as Women's Day in West Virginia.
Whereas, Women comprise fifty two percent of the population of
the state of West Virginia; and
Whereas, The state is thankful for and proud of the
accomplishments and achievements of West Virginia's women; and
Whereas, Women in their roles as workers, mothers, friends,
caretakers, companions, daughters, activists, sisters, volunteers,
wives and others make enormous contributions to the state's
economy, families, communities and general well-being; and
Whereas, The women of West Virginia are gathered today at the
Legislature to celebrate their achievements and draw attention to
the continued need for work on equity issues; and
Whereas, The women of West Virginia are celebrating the
accomplishments of the suffragettes who secured the vote for all
women; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That March 13, 2001, is hereby declared as Women's Day in West
Virginia and all citizens are urged to celebrate the enormous
contributions of women to the success of the state.
