H. R. 14-- "Commemorating the passing of Thomas Jackson Hawse, II, former member of the House of Delegates from the County of Hardy."
Whereas, Thomas Jackson Hawse, II was born July, 27, 1911 in Rock Oak, Hardy County, and died in the year 1994 at the age of eighty-two at Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, Hardy County.
Educated in the public schools, Mr. Hawse was also a graduate of Potomac State College. On August 14, 1941, he was married to Chloe Halterman of Rig, Hardy County. They had four children: Dixie Lee, Thomas J., III, Marion Faye and Herbert E.
Tom Hawse served his county and State with honor, having been elected Sheriff of Hardy County for four years and elected to the House of Delegates for ten years, in 1962, 1966, 1968, 1970 and 1972. He served as Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources in the 59th, 60th and 61st Legislatures.
A gentleman of simple taste and kind words, Mr. Hawse was a farmer and retail grocer. He held membership in the
Moorefield Lions Club, Moorefield Athletic Boosters Club, Moorefield Presbyterian Men's Club Bible Class and served on the South Branch Valley National Bank Board of Directors.
Mr. Hawse gave unselfishly of himself to his community, his county and his State and, in so doing, left this world a better place than it was when he entered it. Thomas J. Hawse is survived by his wife, his four children and seven grandchildren.
The passing of Thomas Jackson Hawse, II must not go unnoticed; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the House of Delegates hereby expresses heartfelt sympathy and regret at the passing of Thomas Jackson Hawse, II, gentleman, statesman and friend; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates be hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the family of Thomas Jackson Hawse, II.
