HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.15
(By Delegates Anderson, Ashley, Azinger,
Beane, Border and Gillespie)
Commemorating the passing of Calvin A. Calendine, businessman,
statesman and former member of the West Virginia House of
Delegates from the County of Wood.
Whereas, The distinguished life of Calvin A. Calendine ended
on election day, the 5th day of November, 1996, at his home in
Parkersburg at the age of sixty-eight years; and
Whereas, Calvin A. Calendine was born on the 3rd day of
December, 1928, in Chesterhill, Ohio, the son of Harley W. and
Margaret Calendine of Parkersburg who survive him; he was a 1945
graduate of Parkersburg High School, served in the U.S. Navy
aboard the USS Topeka, was graduated from Marietta College and
was a quality control chemist for Libbey-Owens Ford; and
Whereas, Calvin A. Calendine was married to Mary Jane
Carpenter Calendine, his wife of 48 years, and was the father of
three children, Jane Ann Burke, Connie Sue McKain, and John W.
Calendine, all of whom survive him; and
Whereas, Calvin A. Calendine was a former member of the West
Virginia House of Delegates, having been elected in 1962, was
appointed to serve in 1970, and was again elected in 1970 and 1972; in 1975, he was appointed Commissioner of Public
Institutions; and
Whereas, In 1958, Calvin A. Calendine founded Calendine
Insurance Agency and was a Life Underwriting Training Council
Fellow, charter member of Motorist Mutual Hall of Fame and served
on the President's Advisory Council; and
Whereas, Calvin A. Calendine also dedicated much of his time
and talent to numerous civic and community endeavors as a member
of the Parkersburg Rotary Club, Elks Club, American Legion,
Mount Olivet Lodge, Nemisis Shrine Temple, American Contract
Bridge League, Ducks Unlimited, B.A.S.S. and Order of the Crown
of Charlemagne, the Selective Service Board, the Red Cross Board,
was a member and trustee of St. Paul's United Methodist Church,
was a 32nd degree Mason and was also instrumental in the
development of the Parkersburg-Wood County Public Library; and
Whereas, The service and dedication of Calvin A. Calendine to
his community and state should not go unrecognized at his
passing; therefore, be it
Resolved by the West Virginia HHouse of Delegates:
That sincere condolences are hereby expressed to the family
of Calvin A. Calendine upon the solemn occasion of the loss of
a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather, and of a leader,
statesman and friend; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
forward copies of this resolution to the family of Calvin A.
Calendine.
