HOUSE RESOLUTION 16

Supporting the construction of The Coalfields Expressway, a
proposed seventy-mile road from Beckley, West Virginia,
through Welch, West Virginia, to Grundy, Virginia.
Whereas, There is a long-term need in southern West Virginia
for world class transportation infrastructure and the
construction of The Coalfields Expressway connecting Beckley,
West Virginia, through Welch, West Virginia, to Grundy, Virginia;
and
Whereas, Business and services to Raleigh, Wyoming and
McDowell counties will increase due to the increased traffic flow
with the construction of the Expressway; and
Whereas, More areas identified as growth potentials will be
reached and the vast productive capacity of the south will be
reached by West Virginia's timber and extractive industries;
other West Virginia industries will be served by allowing
economical access to the wealthy markets as close as two hundred
fifty miles away and tourism will be served by the influx of
visitors from those markets; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the construction of The Coalfields Expressway
connecting Beckley, West Virginia, through Welch, West Virginia,
to Grundy, Virginia, is hereby supported; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk send a copy of this
resolution to the Governor and to members of West Virginia's
Congressional Delegation.
