HOUSE RESOLUTION 16
(By Delegates Givens and Ennis)
"In memory of Mino R. D'Aurora, former member from Brooke
County, assistant doorkeeper, county assessor, city councilman,
educator, worker and distinguished citizen."
Whereas, Mino R. D'Aurora was a native of Italy and a
resident of Follansbee, Brooke County, West Virginia; and
Whereas, He was married to Mary Margaret (Macre), who was
deceased on July 14, 1957. They had three children: Mary Ann,
Giovino John and Joseph Anthony. Married a second time on
January 2, 1961, to Pauline Rhodes of Weirton, they also had
three children: Robert Martin, James Warner (deceased) and Paul
Michael; and
Whereas, Mino D'Aurora was educated in the public schools of
Brooke County and Stubenville Business College. He was a former
employee of Follansbee Steel Corporation, with thirty-five years
of service, and a retired employee of Titanium Metals Corporation
of America, Toronto, with twelve years of service; and
Whereas, Mino R. D'Aurora served this Legislature with
distinction as a member of the House of Delegates from Brooke County from 1959 through 1973, as Vice Chairman of the Committee
on Health and Welfare, member of the Committee on Finance, member
of the Committee on Industry and Labor and as assistant
doorkeeper of the House; and
Whereas, Mr. D'Aurora devoted himself to public service
outside the Legislature by serving as deputy assessor of Brooke
County and councilman for the city of Follansbee; and
Whereas, He was active in civic, religious and fraternal
affairs. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church
in Follansbee, the Holy Name Society, Loyal Order of the Moose,
Sons of Italy, Theta Chi Alpha fraternity, fourth degree Knights
of Columbus, Knights of St. George, Knights of St. Anthony, Cedar
Lodge, United Steelworkers of America AFL, and he was Past Worthy President
of the Eagles, co-chairman of the Follansbee Yuletide Committee
and Santa Claus to the Greater Ohio Valley; and
Whereas, Mino D'Aurora was a loyal fan of the Thundering
Herd, being a "cheerleader emeritus" and having been instrumental in achieving university status for Marshall College; and
Whereas, The State of West Virginia and its people were
greatly enriched by Mr. D'Aurora's life and achievements and are
deeply diminished by his death on November 23, 1997; therefore,
be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the House of Delegates notes the life and mourns the
death of Mino R. D'Aurora, former member and friend, and extends
its deep sympathy to his widow Pauline M. Rhodes D'Aurora and his
family; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
prepare a copy of this resolution for Pauline M. Rhodes D'Aurora,
wife, for his children, John of Morgantown, Father Joseph
D'Aurora of San Diego, California, Robert M. D'Aurora of
Bridgeport, Paul M. D'Aurora of Tampa, Florida, Mrs. Mary Ann
DeLuca of Chesapeake, Virginia, and the Mayor of Follansbee, West
Virginia.
