HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 21

Commending the Honorable Robert C. Byrd.

Whereas, The Honorable Senator Byrd has lent his support to a proposal to amend the U.S. Constitution in order to reign in the "out of control" spending on political campaigns;
Whereas, Campaign spending has skyrocketed in recent years putting the cost of running for office out of the reach of the majority of Americans; and
Whereas, In the most recent national elections an average winning Congressional House race cost $816,000 and an average winning Senate race cost over $7,000,000; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That this Legislature wishes to acknowledge its support of Senator Byrd and urges the senator and his colleagues in their effort to pass a constitutional amendment putting reasonable limits on contributions and spending in political campaigns; and, be it
Further Resolved,
That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Robert C. Byrd.
