HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 22

Recognizing Granville Lance for fifty-four years of dedicated
service to the citizens of Spencer and Roane County.
Whereas, Granville Lance began his career as a Roane County
fireman in 1946 when he joined Spencer's teenage fire department at
the age of fifteen; and
Whereas, Granville Lance served as assistant chief of the
Spencer-Roane volunteer fire department for over thirty years and
as chief of the department for the past eight years; and
Whereas, Under his leadership, the Spencer-Roane volunteer fire
department has grown from one department with one truck to six
departments with thirty-two trucks; and
Whereas, Through his hard work and dedication, the members of
the Spencer-Roane volunteer fire department are equipped with state
of the art protective gear; and
Whereas, No Spencer-Roane firefighter has been seriously
injured or killed in the line of duty; and
Whereas, Granville Lance was also a practicing dentist for
thirty-seven years; and
Whereas, The contributions of Granville Lance to Spencer and
Roane County should not go unnoticed; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That recognition and appreciation is hereby expressed by the
members to Mr. Granville Lance for his dedicated service to Spencer
and Roane County; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to Granville Lance.
